UGM Faculty of Law Hosts “Justicia: Law Kitchen Competition,” Featuring Creative Cakalang Fried Rice Dishes

In celebration of its 79th anniversary, the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) held a cooking competition titled “Justicia: Law Kitchen Competition” on Wednesday (February 12, 2025). Held in the lobby of Building 7, the competition centered on creating original versions of cakalang fried rice, challenging participants to prepare this traditional dish with their own creative twists.

Participants in the competition included various groups from the FH UGM academic community, including faculty members and support staff. In this competition, participants were required to use rice and skipjack tuna as base ingredients, along with natural spices, without any instant seasonings. The entire cooking process took place on-site, with a time limit of 90 minutes. In addition, the dishes had to be presented creatively with an appealing presentation.

This competition was judged based on eight main criteria: taste, cooking technique, appearance, presentation, portion accuracy, cleanliness, cooking time accuracy, and teamwork. After a rigorous judging process, here are the winners of the Justicia: Law Kitchen Competition:

  • 1st Place: Department of Business Law
  • 2nd Place: Finance Staff
  • 3rd Place: Department of Environment
  • Best Presentation: Mauren, Amel, Mikha (Students)

This competition is not only a showcase of culinary creativity but also aims to strengthen camaraderie and cooperation among the academic community of the UGM Faculty of Law. Participants must demonstrate both their cooking skills and teamwork in completing the challenges presented.

Additionally, this event supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 4. SDG 3, which focuses on health and well-being, is reflected in the selection of natural ingredients and healthy food preparation, thereby raising awareness of the importance of a nutritious diet. Meanwhile, SDG 4, which emphasizes quality education, is also realized through the creative learning aspect of this competition, where participants can develop culinary skills and collaborate as a team to create delicious, high-quality dishes.

Through the “Justicia: Law Kitchen Competition,” the UGM Faculty of Law continues to strive to create an academic environment that is not only oriented toward formal education but also toward skill development and a culture of togetherness through various innovative and inspiring activities.
