Master of Laws (Jakarta Campus)
Profile
In 2001, the Master of Laws (MIH) Program at the Jakarta Campus was still part of the Master of Laws Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada, in accordance with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 547/DIKTI/Kep/1996, issued on 11 December 1996. Subsequently, following the issuance of the Regulation of the Minister of National Education No. 30 of 2009 concerning the establishment of study programs outside the domicile of higher education institutions, the management of the MIH Jakarta Campus applied for independent program establishment status.
Subsequently, in 2011, the Master of Laws (MIH) Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (Jakarta Campus) obtained its operational legal basis through the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 102/E/O/2011, which granted permission for the establishment and operation of the Master of Laws Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada, South Jakarta Campus.
The National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) subsequently conducted an accreditation process for the MIH Jakarta Campus. Based on BAN-PT Decree No. 378/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/IX/2014, issued on 27 September 2014, the program successfully obtained an “A” accreditation rating. Five years later, the MIH UGM Jakarta Campus again received an “A” accreditation through BAN-PT Decree No. 3197/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/VIII/2019, issued on 27 August 2019. Furthermore, for the period 22 April 2025 to 28 August 2029, the MIH UGM (Jakarta Campus) achieved an “Excellent” accreditation status.
As of 2025, the MIH Jakarta Campus Program offers three main concentrations, namely Business Law, Litigation Law, and Immigration Law. Each year, the program admits new students twice, with an average intake of approximately 100 students per admission period. Currently, the total number of active students in an academic year is around 300.
The MIH Program (Jakarta Campus) was established to meet the demand for experts with a Master’s (S-2) qualification in the fields of Business Law, Litigation, and Immigration Law. The need for graduates with a Master’s degree in Business Law has continued to increase alongside the growing number of legal issues in the business sector related to corporations, banking, capital markets, competition law, investment, intellectual property rights, and international trade disputes. Therefore, the business world requires corporate legal advisors (corporate lawyer), and in-house legal counsel within companies (in-house lawyer). Moreover, given the increasingly complex law enforcement situation in Indonesia, there is a need for education that can enhance the capacity and competence of law enforcement officers (law enforcer) who are professional and have high integrity. To respond to the demand for human resources from the business sector and government institutions, Universitas Gadjah Mada, as the oldest university in Indonesia, established the MIH Program (Jakarta Campus).
For its first implementation, lectures of the MIH (Jakarta Campus) were held at Bank Bumi Daya Plaza Building, Imam Bonjol Street, Central Jakarta. A total of 60 students were registered as participants. In line with the increasing number of students, in 2002, the venue was moved to the Patra Jasa Building, Jenderal Gatot Subroto Street, South Jakarta. After the construction of the UGM (Jakarta Campus) Building was completed, from 2010 until now, lectures have been conducted at the UGM (Jakarta Campus) Building, Tower B, 3rd Floor, Dr. Sahardjo Street No. 83, Manggarai, Tebet, South Jakarta.
