On Tuesday (October 21, 2025), the UGM Faculty of Law, through its Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office, successfully held a “Suluh Praja” legal outreach event at the Bendung Village Office in Semin Subdistrict, Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. This legal outreach program aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the attendees—village officials and the surrounding community—regarding common legal issues. This edition of “Suluh Praja” focused on the theme “Customary Law, Personal Data Protection, and Restorative Justice” to provide legal insights into aspects of customary law, the importance of personal data protection, and the application of restorative justice in criminal cases.
The event began at 9:30 a.m. WIB with a group singing of the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya.” The event continued with opening remarks by the Head of Sambirejo Village, Didik Rubiyanto, followed by a presentation from a team from the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office’s Civil and Administrative Law Division, who delivered an introductory address and presented material on the duties, responsibilities, and functions of the civil and administrative law division within the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office.
Next, the opening presentation was delivered by a guest lecturer from the UGM Faculty of Law, Dr. Sulastriyono, S.H., M.Si., who spoke on the topic of “Customary Law” to provide an understanding of the existence and current applicability of customary law in Indonesia. The next presentation was delivered by Dr. Airin Liemanto, S.H., LL.M., who discussed “Personal Data Protection,” emphasizing the importance of awareness regarding the protection of personal data to prevent misuse. Following that, the final presentation was delivered by the third guest lecturer, Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M. (HR), Ph.D., who discussed “Restorative Justice in the Criminal Justice System in Indonesia” to provide legal knowledge regarding the application of the principles of restorative justice in resolving criminal cases under certain conditions. All speakers—including representatives from the DIY Provincial Attorney General’s Office and the three UGM Faculty of Law professors—actively participated in a question-and-answer session with village officials and local residents who were in attendance.
The presentations by all the speakers were delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, facilitating a productive discussion. The guest lecturers also answered participants’ questions clearly and provided practical solutions. It is hoped that this legal outreach program will support SDG Goal 16—to promote peace, justice, and strong institutions, starting at the village government level—and strengthen partnerships to achieve better outcomes in line with SDG Goal 17.
