On Tuesday (October 21, 2025), the UGM Faculty of Law, through its Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office, successfully held a “Suluh Praja” legal outreach event at the Margosari Village Office in Pengasih Subdistrict, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. This legal outreach program aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the attendees—village officials and the surrounding community—regarding common legal issues. This edition of “Suluh Praja” focused on the theme “Alternative Dispute Resolution and Waste Management” to offer additional legal insights into dispute resolution options that can serve as solutions for legal disputes, as well as the legal aspects of waste management.
The event began at 9:30 a.m. WIB with a group singing of the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya,” followed by opening remarks by Danang, the Head of Margosari Village. The event continued with a presentation on the primary duties and functions of the Civil and Administrative Law Division (Datun) of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia, delivered by a team from the Datun Division of the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office. Next, a legal education session was delivered by two guest lecturers from the Faculty of Law at UGM: Dr. Harry Purwanto, S.H., M.Hum., who presented on the topic “Alternative Dispute Resolution” to provide legal insights regarding various non-litigious methods of resolving legal disputes—including consultation, negotiation, mediation, conciliation, and arbitration—each of which offers distinct advantages over litigation-based dispute resolution through the courts. The next session was led by Dr. Rr. Dinarjati Eka Puspitasari, S.H., M.Hum., who presented on “Waste Management,” emphasizing the importance of implementing waste management practices in accordance with applicable legal regulations. All speakers—both from the DIY Provincial Attorney General’s Office and faculty members of the UGM Faculty of Law—actively participated in a question-and-answer session with village officials and local residents who were in attendance.
The presentations by all the speakers were delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, facilitating productive discussions. The lecturers also answered participants’ questions clearly and offered practical solutions. It is hoped that this legal outreach program will support the realization of SDG Goal 12—to promote responsible consumption and production—and SDG Goal 16—to promote peace, justice, and strong institutions, starting at the village government level—as well as strengthen partnerships to achieve better outcomes in line with SDG Goal 17.
