The Master’s Program in Notarial Law at the Faculty of Law, UGM, the National Land Agency (BPN), and the Tamantirto Village Administration Collaborate to Promote Land Law Literacy Among Residents

The Master’s Program in Notarial Law at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), in collaboration with the Bantul Regency Land Office and the Tamantirto Village Government, held a legal awareness event titled “Potential Legal Issues Behind Certified Land” on Wednesday (May 21, 2025) at 9:00 a.m. WIB at the Tamantirto Village Hall, Kapanewon Kasihan, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.

This activity is part of the community service program, which is a requirement for every academic program within the Faculty of Law at UGM, including the Master’s Program in Notarial Law. The village of Tamantirto was selected as the location for the legal outreach session due to land-related issues that had previously garnered public attention. Through this activity, it is hoped that the community will gain a comprehensive understanding of potential legal issues in the field of land affairs, as well as the preventive measures and reporting procedures that can be taken.

The workshop was attended by approximately 40 participants, including village officials, village government staff, representatives of community organizations, and the heads of RTs and RWs throughout Tamantirto Village. The event opened with the singing of the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya,” followed by remarks from Jogoboyo of Tamantirto Village, Mr. Marsudi, S.H., and Head of the Notary Master’s Program at the Faculty of Law, UGM, Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I.

During the main session of the workshop, three expert speakers shared their knowledge and experience. The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan Ismail, S.H., M.Si., Professor of Agrarian Law at the Faculty of Law, UGM, explained the importance of preventive measures to ensure the public does not become entangled in land disputes. These include utilizing land to prevent it from becoming abandoned, securing evidence of land ownership rights, safely storing such evidence, and not carelessly handing over evidence of land ownership rights to third parties.

The second speaker, Nur Wiyandari, S.H., Head of the Rights Determination and Registration Section at the Bantul Regency Land Office, emphasized the urgency of using electronic certificates, which are considered safer than paper certificates. She also emphasized the importance of the public handling land certificate matters independently at the land office, as well as using the services of Land Deed Officers (PPAT) registered in the Sentuh Tanahku app to avoid the risk of fraud by unscrupulous individuals.

Meanwhile, Hasti Susanti, Ptnh., Head of the Dispute Control and Resolution Section, urged the public not to readily hand over certificates, signatures, or personal identification data to third parties without legal clarity. All the material presented elicited an active response from participants, who asked a variety of questions based on their real-world experiences and challenges in the field. The speakers provided comprehensive, informative, and solution-oriented responses.

This outreach event was moderated by Anggita Mustika Dewi, S.H., M.Kn., a lecturer and Assistant Chair of the Master’s Program in Notarial Law at the Faculty of Law, UGM, who skillfully guided the discussion in an interactive manner.

This event is a concrete manifestation of the commitment of the UGM Faculty of Law’s Master’s Program in Notarial Law to fulfilling the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community service. Furthermore, this outreach program also supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs Goal 17, namely partnerships for the goals, through active collaboration between universities, the government, and the community in providing relevant and practical legal education.
