Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR), Ph.D., a lecturer in the Department of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), was invited to attend the Public Hearing (RDPU) in connection with the drafting of the Bill on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT). The event took place on Thursday (May 22, 2025) from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM WIB in the Legislative Body Meeting Room, Nusantara I Building, and was broadcast online via the TVR Parlemen YouTube channel.
Sri Wiyanti’s participation represents the contribution of criminal law scholars from the Faculty of Law at UGM in providing substantive input regarding the urgency of legal recognition and protection for domestic workers. With her extensive academic and research experience, Sri Wiyanti is expected to strengthen the legal foundation of the Domestic Workers Bill so that it is more responsive to the needs of domestic workers, who have long been vulnerable to exploitation and have had minimal protection.
The Faculty of Law at UGM’s participation in this strategic forum is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The drafting of the PPRT Bill is closely related to SDG 5 (Gender Equality), as the majority of domestic workers are women; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), emphasizing the importance of fair labor standards; SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), through protection for vulnerable groups of workers; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), by promoting an inclusive and effective legal system.
Through Sri Wiyanti Eddyono’s participation in this public hearing, the Faculty of Law at UGM reaffirmed its commitment to playing an active role in the national legislative process, strengthening the voice of academics in protecting the rights of domestic workers, and supporting the global agenda for sustainable development.
