The Dean of the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University, Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D., presented a report on the Faculty of Law’s 2024 achievements during a Senate meeting and academic lecture held in conjunction with the Faculty of Law’s 79th anniversary, at Auditorium Building B, on Monday (February 17, 2024). The report was divided into three sections. First, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Collaboration. Second, Finance, Assets, and Human Resources. Third, Research, Community Service, and Information Systems.
In the areas of academics, student affairs, and collaboration, Dahliana explained that the Faculty of Law has consistently been committed to providing excellent education throughout its 79-year history. This commitment is reflected in the Faculty of Law’s accreditation status, which has achieved the “Excellent” rating for the Doctor of Legal Science and Master of Notarial Law programs. Furthermore, five study programs are accredited with grade A: the Bachelor of Law (both regular and IUP tracks), the Master of International Law (MIH-LLM), the Master of Legal Studies (MHlit), the Jakarta Master of International Law (MIH Jakarta), and the Master of Health Law (MHBK). Additionally, one study program is accredited with the “Very Good” rating: the Master of Health Law.
As part of its commitment to enhancing international recognition and the quality of education, Dahliana explained that the UGM School of Law continues to strive to improve its academic quality. This is reflected in the School’s rising rankings at both the national and international levels. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject (Law), FH UGM rose from 237th to 217th internationally and ranks 3rd nationally. Meanwhile, according to Edurank in the field of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (Law), FH UGM ranks 126th in Asia and 2nd nationally.
Regarding student admissions, Dahliana noted that the number of new students admitted over the past three years has increased annually. Meanwhile, the percentage of graduate students has consistently exceeded 50% of the university’s target, reaching 57 percent in 2024. There was an increase in the number of new undergraduates, from 934 in 2023 to 948 in 2024. Meanwhile, the number of graduate students rose from 524 in 2023 to 542 in 2024.
Meanwhile, the number of students from the UGM Faculty of Law who graduated throughout 2024 totaled 402 undergraduate graduates and 379 graduate students. The UGM Faculty of Law has also been facilitating student participation in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka program from 2021 to the present. Additionally, 16 students participated in the IISMA program, studying at various renowned universities around the world. Furthermore, 30 students participated in the MSIB program. Throughout 2024, UGM Law Faculty students also actively participated in various competitions at the regional, national, and international levels.
Dahliana noted that the UGM School of Law continues to strive to establish collaborations with various partners at both the national and international levels. In 2023, the UGM School of Law partnered with 82 domestic and 20 international organizations. That number increased in 2024, with 123 domestic partners and 24 international partners. Additionally, the UGM School of Law consistently maintains close ties with its alumni through various joint programs and activities.
Second, in the areas of Finance, Assets, and Human Resources. Dahliana noted that the UGM Faculty of Law achieved significant performance in 2024. Total revenue increased by 25.6 percent from the previous year, reaching Rp85.6 billion in 2024. This increase was also driven by a 68.8 percent contribution from educational funds, as well as other sources.
Furthermore, the UGM Faculty of Law is constantly improving and developing its infrastructure. In 2024, the UGM Faculty of Law erected a statue of the goddess of justice as a symbol of the principles of objective and impartial justice in law enforcement. The UGM Faculty of Law also inaugurated several facilities, including a Wellness Center, Kids Corner, Psychological Counseling Room, a connecting bridge between buildings, a Moot Court, a Music Studio, a Podcast Room, renovations to the MIH Jakarta Campus Lounge, and the provision of left-handed chairs for students.
Furthermore, the total number of faculty members at the UGM Faculty of Law was 101 in 2024. The Faculty of Law successfully recruited one new faculty member assigned to the Department of Customary Law. In terms of enhancing faculty quality, 16 faculty members were pursuing doctoral degrees both domestically and abroad in 2024. Of that total, four faculty members had completed their doctoral degrees. Additionally, 60 faculty members were involved in organizations and activities at the regional, national, and international levels. Meanwhile, support staff exceeded the university’s training hour target, with a total of 4,140 training hours and an average of 48 training hours per staff member.
Third, in the areas of Research, Community Service, and Information Systems. Dahliana Hasan noted that the UGM Faculty of Law, through its research and publication units, received a total of 245 research grants in 2024. In addition to research, the UGM Faculty of Law also sought to increase its publications in the form of national and international books, national and international journal articles, conference proceedings, and policy papers, totaling 330 publications in 2024. Furthermore, the UGM Faculty of Law successfully launched four new journals in 2024.
FH UGM also carried out community service in 2024, in the form of legal aid such as consultations and legal representation, specialized training for the legal profession, legal outreach through the “Suluh Praja” program, legal education in collaboration with various partners, and the provision of expert witnesses in court proceedings. In addition, the UGM Faculty of Law also provided grants for legal outreach to students, faculty members, and research centers. The UGM Faculty of Law has also successfully developed various systems, including “Eviden” and the UGM Faculty of Law website, upgraded its computer labs, established a multimedia studio, expanded its network, and installed additional CCTV cameras.
