On Thursday (February 20, 2025), the UGM Faculty of Law, through its Research and Publications Unit, held the culminating event of the Legal Research Expo as part of the series of events celebrating the 79th anniversary of the UGM Faculty of Law. This event served as a platform to disseminate research conducted by students who received the 2024 Student Research Grant. The Legal Research Expo itself consisted of the Three-Minute Research Competition and the Favorite Research Poster Contest.
From the research outputs collected through the Student Research Grant, 11 finalists in the undergraduate category and 10 finalists in the graduate category were selected to participate in the Three-Minute Research Competition. Several research topics presented by the finalists support the Sustainable Development Goals, including: gender equality (SDG 5) and peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16).
The judging panel for the undergraduate category consisted of Richo Andi Wibowo, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., Ibrahim Hanif, S.H., LL.M., and Rizky Septiana Widyaningtyas, S.H., M.Kn. Meanwhile, the judging panel for the graduate category consisted of Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., Umar Mubdi, S.H., M.A., and Rangga Aditya Dachlan, S.H., LL.M., M.Phil., D.Phil.
Participants were given 3 minutes to present their research findings. This was followed by a question-and-answer session with the panel of judges. Participants were given 4 minutes to answer questions posed by the panel of judges.
Based on the judges’ evaluations, the winners of the 3-Minute Research Competition are as follows:
Undergraduate Category:
- Rizky Winda Salsabila — Melindungi Kehidupan Masyarakat Hukum Adat dalam Konteks Pengaturan Pertambangan: Perspektif Indonesia dan Filipina
- Destriananda Safa Aina — Perlindungan Lahan Pertanian: Studi Komparatif Sistem Administrasi Pertanahan di Indonesia dan India
- Iona Fahriyah Odilla — Potensi Greenwashing dalam Perdagangan Karbon pada Sektor Kehutanan dengan Skema Offset Emisi Gas Rumah Kaca di Indonesia
Graduate Category:
- Jelita Septiani Aprisal — Konstruksi Regulasi dan Pemenuhan Hak Lingkungan Hidup terhadap Perempuan Pesisir Pulau Kodingareng dari Perspektif Feminist Political Ecology
- Muhammad Taufiq Firdaus — Korupsi Politik: Menguatnya Electoral Authoritrian dan Autocratic Legalism di Pemilihan Umum 2024
- Uni Tsulasi Putri — Strengthening Consumer Protections in Indonesia Amid Immersive Technology Advancements
The winner of the Favorite Poster Contest was also announced during this event. Posters were displayed throughout the UGM Faculty of Law, and voting for the favorite poster took place from February 5–20, 2025. The winner of the undergraduate category was Patricia Nerissa, with her research titled “The Legal Reform Movement of the ITE Law: The Contribution of Social Movements to Legal Reform.” Meanwhile, in the graduate category, the winner was Hendi Setiawan with the research title “The Role of the Village Consultative Body in the Formulation of Village Regulations in Muara Lakitan Subdistrict.”
It is hoped that the Legal Research Expo will further increase students’ interest in conducting research and serve as an effort to strengthen the intellectual capacity of the UGM Faculty of Law’s academic community in producing high-quality research.
