On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), through its Center for Legal Consultation and Assistance (PKBH), successfully conducted its inaugural legal outreach at the Class IIA Juvenile Correctional Facility (LPKA) Yogyakarta. This legal outreach program represents a concrete manifestation of PKBH FH UGM’s commitment to community service in fulfilling the Higher Education Tri Dharma. The initiative united various elements of the academic community, bringing together both faculty members and students of FH UGM.
The legal outreach activity commenced at 1:00 PM WIB in the Education Room of LPKA Class IIA Yogyakarta. The participating faculty members included Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab, S.H., M.Si., who presented on “Fulfillment of Children’s Rights in Indonesian Law,” and Dr. Rimawati, S.H., M.Hum., who presented on “Local Wisdom Values in Child Rearing and Education.” Both topics are expected to support the post-LPKA reintegration process for juvenile inmates through instruments of local wisdom and a pluralistic legal system.
Additionally, the event was attended by Ms. Novi Suwanti, S.H., Head of the Coaching Section at LPKA Class IIA Yogyakarta. Ms. Novi emphasized that prioritizing the rights of juvenile inmates is essential not only during their rehabilitation period but also post-rehabilitation to guide them toward a bright future. Participating juvenile inmates demonstrated great enthusiasm by actively engaging in the discussion session with both speakers. This legal outreach is expected to enhance the legal knowledge of juvenile inmates as part of efforts to foster an inclusive and peaceful society.
This legal outreach activity at LPKA Class IIA Yogyakarta concretely supports the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under Goal 4 (Quality Education), the program provides inclusive and equitable non-formal legal education to broaden the juvenile inmates' understanding of their rights under concrete Indonesian law throughout their rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation periods. Furthermore, the initiative advances Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by enhancing legal awareness to guarantee open access to justice, foster a culture of peace, and strengthen effective, accountable, and inclusive legal institutions. Lastly, the program actualizes Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through sustainable, strategic cross-institutional collaboration aimed at upholding equitable legal governance.
