BLC FH UGM Promotes Students' Understanding of Cross-Border Insolvency and Career Opportunities in Law

The Business Law Community (BLC) of the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University hosted a seminar & career talk titled “Challenges and Legal Authority of Receivers in Cross-Border Insolvency Asset Execution: Navigating International Insolvency”. This event was held in person on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Auditorium of Building B, Faculty of Law, UGM, featuring the Siregar Setiawan Manalu Partnership (SSMP) Law Firm as the main partner.

This event featured two speakers from SSMP Law Firm. The first speaker, Nien Rafles Siregar, S.H., M.H. (Managing Partner), presented on the challenges and legal authority of trustees in cross-border asset enforcement. This was followed by the second speaker, Yohanes, S.H. (Managing Associate), who gave a presentation in the Career Talk session regarding the dynamics of the professional world in the fields of bankruptcy law and international civil law.

This discussion highlighted the importance of understanding cross-jurisdictional law in the era of globalization, particularly in the practice of international insolvency. Participants gained insights into how trustees navigate legal obstacles in cross-border asset execution and the importance of harmonizing regulations among nations to ensure legal certainty. Additionally, the Career Talk session provided firsthand perspectives on the skills and readiness law students need when entering professional practice. This event also served as a valuable opportunity with the awarding of scholarships of Rp5,000,000.00 each to two students from the UGM Faculty of Law. This underscores SSMP’s commitment to building the capacity of Indonesia’s young legal professionals.

More than just an academic forum, this event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the enhancement of cross-border legal literacy, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by equipping students with insights into the professional world, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening understanding of international regulations in the field of insolvency.

Through this event, law students have broadened their perspectives on increasingly complex contemporary legal issues. By hosting this event, the BLC at the Faculty of Law, UGM, has created an academic forum that not only strengthens students’ legal knowledge but also prepares them to tackle the challenges of legal practice on a global scale.
