Civil Law Department Lecturer: Umar Mubdi, S.H., M.A. as The Speaker in National Seminar on Legal Reform: “Reviewing the Constitutional and Human Rights Enforcement in Accordance with Justice and Humanity”

Umar Mubdi, S.H., M.A., lecturer from the Civil Law Department Faculty of Law UGM became the speaker in the National Seminar on Legal Reform on Saturday (4/5/2024). This seminar brought the theme “Reviewing the Constitutional and Human Rights Enforcement in Accordance with Justice and Humanity” was held by Faculty of Law Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University. This seminar was aimed to trigger the discussion on the crucial legal issues, in accordance with the SDGs on education and justice.

This seminar also presented several reputable speakers, including Dr. Zainal Arifin Mochtar, S.H., LL.M. from the Constitutional Law Department UGM, and Prof. Iwan Satriawan, S.H., MCL., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Law UMY. The appearance of these academics is to emphasize the importance of collaborative discussion in the field of law and education.

In this event, Umar Mubdi brought the discussion on "Judicialization of Authoritarian Politics: Reflection on the Legal Reform and Court.” In his presentation, Umar Mubdi explained the supporting elements for rule of law that are categorized into three main components: procedural, substantial and supervision mechanism. 

Procedural element covering the legislation order, legal politic order, and the goal order. These components are important in ensuring that the law has been applied and enforced fairly and transparently. The substantial element that was addressed by Umar Mubdi covering justice, human rights, public interest, and morality. He argued that these elements is the foundation for the fair legal system and must be prioritized in the legal reform attempts. By integrating these principles, the legal framework can properly serve the public’s needs and maintain the dignity of every individual. Furthermore, Umar Mubdi also highlighted the importance of the supervision mechanism that covers the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and other supervision institutions. These bodies play a vital role in maintaining the balance of the legal system,, ensuring consistent and fair law.

This national seminar also provided a platform for the participants to involve themselves in the discussion on the legal & human rights condition in Indonesia. The participants consist of students, legal practitioners, and academics are enthusiastically learn and contribute to the discussion on the legal and educational reform. This event also reflects the implementation of the 16th goal of SDGs in Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Other than that, this seminar also reflecting the implementation of the 4th goal of SDGs in carrying out Quality Education for the participants as well.
