UGM Master of Notarial Law Program Holds Sharia Contract Drafting Workshop to Strengthen Students’ Professional Competencies

The Master of Notarial Law Study Program of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MKn FH UGM), successfully organized a Workshop on Sharia Contract Drafting held for two days, from Thursday to Friday, June 11–12, 2026. The academic event, conducted offline in Room 3.1.1 of the FH UGM Building, attracted high enthusiasm from the academic community. This was reflected in the attendance of approximately 85 participants from various levels of study at the Faculty of Law UGM, ranging from undergraduate to master’s programs.

This activity was initiated as a strategic step to strengthen students’ in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of drafting sharia contracts. This competency is considered crucial and highly relevant in responding to real-world professional demands, particularly in the notarial sector and the rapidly growing Islamic banking industry. As a form of appreciation and fulfillment of academic rights, all participants received supporting facilities including training modules, meals, official certificates, and points for the Diploma Supplement Certificate (Surat Keterangan Pendamping Ijazah/SKPI).

This intensive workshop featured four expert speakers with strong reputations in their respective fields, consisting of two practicing notaries and two expert lecturers from the MKn FH UGM Study Program. The four speakers were Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I., Justicia Eka Puspita, S.H., M.Kn., and Fatir Tashin Syafiq, S.H., M.Kn. Overall, the training was structured into six comprehensive material sessions distributed proportionally over the two-day event.

On the first day, the training series began with a presentation by Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., who provided an in-depth discussion on potential legal issues in sharia contracts. The second session continued with Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I., who discussed the role of notaries in optimizing sharia principles and institutional aspects within Islamic financial institutions. Closing the first day, Justicia Eka Puspita, S.H., M.Kn., delivered material on drafting deeds related to Islamic financial institution structures through a scenario-based approach.

Entering the second day, Fatir Tashin Syafiq, S.H., M.Kn., led the first and second sessions with materials focusing on drafting deeds related to Islamic bank financing and collateral agreements, followed by the preparation of deeds involving multi-contracts through a scenario-based approach. The material was officially concluded in the third session by Justicia Eka Puspita, S.H., M.Kn., through an applied presentation on the challenges of drafting sharia deeds in practice.

To ensure optimal knowledge absorption, each material session was delivered through an interactive and practical approach, with speakers providing extensive opportunities for discussion through question-and-answer sessions. Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the event, and the organizing committee also provided appreciation in the form of attractive souvenirs for students who actively participated in discussions.

The implementation of this workshop represents a concrete manifestation of the ongoing commitment of the MKn FH UGM Study Program to improving the quality of higher education and maintaining curriculum relevance in accordance with practical needs in the field. Furthermore, this initiative also serves as part of the university’s contribution to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, namely Quality Education, through strengthening students’ academic and professional capacities. Through regular programs such as this, MKn FH UGM continues to position itself as a pioneer in developing contextual, responsive, and future-oriented notarial law studies.
