On Monday, June 2, 2025, the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), through its Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office, held a legal outreach program titled “Suluh Praja” at the Jatimulyo Village Office in Dlingo Subdistrict, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. This activity aimed to broaden the legal understanding of village officials and the surrounding community regarding legal issues frequently encountered in daily life. The theme of this session was “Marriage and Domestic Violence.”
The event began at 9:30 a.m. with opening remarks by Mr. Mukidi, a representative of the Jatimulyo Village Head, followed by the singing of the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya.” Afterward, a team from the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office presented on the role, functions, and authority of the prosecutor’s office in the areas of civil law and administrative law.
The legal education session continued with presentations by two lecturers from the UGM Faculty of Law. Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I., explained the legal aspects of marriage from an Islamic perspective, while Ms. Niken Subekti Budi Utami, S.H., M.S.I., discussed the legal provisions and criminal penalties regarding domestic violence (DV). The discussion was interactive, with the speakers actively answering questions from participants, the majority of whom were village officials.
This event was designed in an engaging and educational format, encouraging active participation from attendees. The speakers answered questions candidly and offered practical solutions to the issues raised.
This legal education initiative not only supports Goals 16 and 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but is also relevant to other SDGs. SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, particularly in efforts to prevent domestic violence as a form of violence that impacts the physical and mental health of victims. SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, by providing a strong legal understanding of rights within marriage and protection for victims of domestic violence. SDG 10: Reduce inequality, particularly regarding access to information and legal protection for vulnerable groups at the village level.
