Continuing its community service initiatives, the Legal Consultation and Aid Center (PKBH) of FH UGM, in partnership with the Sleman Class IIB Correctional Facility, conducted the third installment of its Legal Outreach series on Friday, June 24, 2022. The session, held in person at the facility, was attended by 25 residents and featured two FH UGM lecturers as speakers: Dr. Muhaimin, S.H., M.Kn., and Annisa Syaufika Yustisia Ridwan, S.H., M.H.
The program was divided into two presentation segments. The first session was led by Dr. Muhaimin, S.H., M.Kn., who presented on Inheritance under Islamic Law. He outlined that Islamic inheritance law serves as one of the established systems within Indonesia’s national legal framework, operating alongside civil and customary inheritance systems. He emphasized that this specific legal regime governs the distribution of estates for individuals who pass away as Muslims. Similar to principles found in civil law, Islamic inheritance also incorporates the concept of substitute heirs (ahli waris pengganti). Dr. Muhaimin explained that such individuals are eligible to receive a share of the estate provided the person they are replacing predeceased the testator, maintained their Islamic faith, and was not otherwise legally disqualified from inheriting.
The second segment, delivered by Annisa Syaufika Yustisia Ridwan, S.H., M.H., covered the topic of Personal Data Protection. She noted that while Indonesia currently lacks a singular, comprehensive law dedicated solely to this area, various existing statutes and regulations already provide a legal basis for safeguarding personal information. She further detailed that consumer data security is managed through a network of legislation, including the Law on Electronic Information and Transactions (UU ITE), the Consumer Protection Law, and various sectoral regulations from the Financial Services Authority (POJK) and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology regarding electronic systems. Following the presentations, participants engaged with the speakers to deepen their understanding of these legal concepts.
