Free Primary Health Care Services Provided by DoctorSHARE and Public Health Students from the Faculty of Law, UGM, at Berhala Port, Letung Village, Jemaja Subdistrict, Anambas Islands Regency

Anambas Islands – Monday (April 28, 2025), the UGM Faculty of Law, in collaboration with DoctorSHARE and the Anambas Islands Regency Government, successfully conducted a Free Basic Health Care Service event at Berhala Port, Letung Village, Jemaja Subdistrict, Anambas Islands Regency, Riau Islands Province. In this event, the UGM Faculty of Law was represented by master’s students from the Master of Health Law Program and the Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH). This health service is part of a series of Community Service events in Anambas Islands Regency, which is one of the efforts to realize the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly to improve the health status and legal awareness of the community in Remote Island Border Areas (DTPK), as well as in the Frontline, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions of Indonesia.

The Community Service program is scheduled to take place in two phases during April and May 2025. Activities in the first phase will be held from April 28 to May 1, 2025, and will consist of two days of free health services, legal and health education sessions, and a social service initiative to donate medical equipment to primary healthcare facilities. The team participating in the first phase of the Community Service program consists of graduate students from the Master’s Program in Health Law, namely Dr. Nabila Khairunisa, Dr. Kenya Leilani, Dr. Muhammad Rizky Bafadhal, I Wayan Artawan, S.H., La Ode Akbar Alikhan, S.H., and a representative from the PKBH, Sahl Radian Setyaki.

The free health service event on the first day ran from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During this event, in addition to health checkups by doctors, residents aged 30 and older received free basic laboratory tests, including random blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol screenings. Pregnant women also received free ultrasound examinations.

Members of the public seeking healthcare services are invited to register at the registration desk, followed by a vital signs check, basic laboratory tests for those aged 30 and older, and examinations tailored to the patient’s needs. For patients requiring minor surgery, a preoperative examination will be conducted to confirm the surgical site, along with screening tests for HbSAg, HIV, and VDRL. Surgical procedures will be performed the following day at DoctorSHARE’s floating hospital (RSK), namely RSK dr. Lie Dharmawan II, which is equipped with an operating room. Minor surgical services are provided with a daily quota of 30 patients, covering procedures such as the removal of lumps, ganglions, and hernias.

The community appeared enthusiastic about participating in this event, as evidenced by the large number of attendees who came as patients. A total of 80 local residents attended the event. The health complaints reported were quite varied, ranging from minor issues—such as flu-like symptoms and itching, for which free medication was provided on-site—to more serious conditions. This activity was made possible thanks to the support of local government agencies, such as the Health Department and Community Health Centers located near the event site.

The implementation of these free health services is expected to support the goals of the SDGs, particularly Goal 3 on health and Goal 10 on reducing health service disparities in DTPK and 3T regions in Indonesia. Of course, this initiative is also expected to strengthen partnerships to achieve better outcomes, in line with the vision of SDG 17.
