The Research Center for Law, Gender, and Society (LGS), Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a Training on Feminist Research Methodology and Iftar Gathering on Tuesday, 18 March 2025, from 15.15 to 19.00 WIB, at Room B.5.5, Faculty of Law UGM. The event was intended for researchers and volunteers of the LGS Research Center, aimed at strengthening methodological capacity in conducting gender-sensitive research.
The event opened with a training session on research methodology for sensitive issues, delivered by Dr. Sartika Intaning Pradhani, S.H., M.H., an academic in Customary Law at the Faculty of Law UGM, under the topic "Research on Sensitive Issues in Encouraging Researchers to Reflect on Their Positionality as Researchers of Sensitive Issues." This session encouraged researchers to critically reflect on their positionality, power relations, and ethical responsibilities when conducting research on vulnerable and sensitive topics.
The session continued with material on Gender-Perspective Research Methodology, presented by Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M (HR)., Ph.D., an academic in Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law UGM. In this session, participants were introduced to methodological approaches that integrate a gender perspective throughout the research process from formulating research questions and collecting data to conducting analysis in order to produce research that is more inclusive and responsive to gender inequality.
The activity also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education by strengthening researchers’ capacity to apply critical, ethical, and gender-sensitive research methodologies; SDG 5 on Gender Equality by promoting research approaches that identify and address gender inequalities; and SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by strengthening inclusive and justice-oriented legal research. Through this initiative, LGS FH UGM seeks to promote more reflective and responsible research practices that contribute to knowledge production and social change grounded in equality and justice.
The event concluded with an Iftar gathering among all LGS researchers and volunteers, serving as a moment to strengthen togetherness and camaraderie during the month of Ramadan.
