The UGM Faculty of Law's Master of Notary Program Holds Family Law Counseling in Sleman

The Master of Notary Program, Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), recently held a legal education event in the Tegaltirto Village Hall, Berbah Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The event, themed "Family Law (Marriage, Divorce, and Inheritance)," took place on Wednesday, November 22, 2025.

This legal education activity aimed to provide the public with legal understanding regarding family law, specifically regarding marriage, divorce, and inheritance, viewed from two legal perspectives: Islamic law and customary law. The event was attended by the local Village Secretary (Carik), with approximately 45 participants, consisting of village officials and staff, representatives of village institutions, and representatives of neighborhood associations (RT/RW) in Tegaltirto Village. 

The event featured three outstanding speakers: Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I. as Head of the Master of Notary Program at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Lecturer in the Department of Islamic Law, Dr. Rimawati, S.H., M.Hum., Lecturer in the Department of Customary Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and Anggita Mustika Dewi, S.H., M.Kn., Lecturer in the Department of Agrarian Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Each speaker delivered material in their respective fields: Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I., on family law from an Islamic legal perspective; Dr. Rimawati, S.H., M.Hum., on family law from a customary law perspective; and Anggita Mustika Dewi, S.H., M.Kn., on land law.

The series of legal education activities began with an opening by the MC, followed by the singing of the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, and remarks from the Village Secretary, Yustina Dwi Rahayu, S.Pd., and the Head of the Master of Notary Program at the Faculty of Law, Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I. 

Next, the main event was a presentation of legal counseling material delivered by rotating speakers. Following this, an interactive discussion session ensued, with enthusiastic questions from the public, particularly regarding inheritance, the status of children from unregistered marriages as heirs, the status of adopted children as heirs, and the status of inherited land in the event of the heir's disappearance. These questions were answered by the speakers with comprehensive and solution-oriented explanations. 

This entire series of legal counseling sessions demonstrates the commitment of the Management of the Master of Notary Program, Faculty of Law Universitas Gadjah Mada, to realizing one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely community service. Furthermore, this activity aligns with point 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely peace, justice, and strong institutions, which are realized through the process of instilling legal understanding in society.
