As a tangible contribution to the community, Aprilita Putri, a 2021 student at the UGM Faculty of Law, and her team organized a legal awareness session titled “Legal Consequences of Electronic-Based Sexual Violence and Reporting Procedures.” The event took place on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Stella Duce 1 High School in Yogyakarta.
During the event, Aprilita Putri presented material covering various aspects of sexual violence—both physical and non-physical—with a focus on electronic-based sexual violence (KBGO). The material was carefully prepared and included an explanation of the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes, examples of sexual harassment cases, and reporting procedures to various institutions such as the Legal Aid Institute (LBH), the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), the Department of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (DP3AP2KB), the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), and police stations.
The event opened with a warm welcome from the organizers, followed by an informative and relevant presentation by Aprilita Putri and the outreach team. The participants, who were students at Stella Duce 1 High School in Yogyakarta, actively engaged in the question-and-answer session, demonstrating their interest in legal issues relevant to daily life, particularly regarding cyber-based sexual violence.
In addition to providing legal education, this initiative also advances the goals of quality education and justice in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 16. This aligns with the spirit of the 2023 Student Legal Outreach Grant program initiated by PKBH UGM. Aprilita Putri, as one of the grant recipients, carried out her program with great dedication to make a positive contribution to the community.
Through this initiative, it is hoped that awareness of the legal consequences of cyber-based sexual violence will become more widespread. The public is expected to become more aware of their rights and the procedures they must follow when reporting incidents of sexual violence. Additionally, this initiative raises awareness of the importance of protecting victims of sexual violence, particularly through existing institutions.
