The Faculty of Law of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Legislation of the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, held a Public Consultation on the Draft Law on the Indonesian International Financial Center on Saturday, 4 July 2026, at the Auditorium of the UGM Faculty of Law.
The event served as an academic forum to gather input from scholars, legal practitioners, and other stakeholders in formulating legislation aimed at strengthening Indonesia's position as an international financial center. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, S.H., M.Hum., Vice Minister of Law of the Republic of Indonesia. The discussion featured Prof. Dr. Drs. Paripurna P. Sugarda, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Prof. Adrianto Dwi Nugroho, S.H., Adv.LL.M., LL.D., Dr. Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu, S.H., LL.M., and Dr. Hendry Julian Noor, S.H., M.Kn., with Dr. Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M. serving as moderator.
Through this public consultation, the Faculty of Law UGM and the Ministry of Law sought to promote evidence-based legislation that responds to global economic developments, enhances legal certainty for businesses, and strengthens Indonesia's competitiveness in the international financial sector.
This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by promoting transparent, participatory, and evidence-based lawmaking. It also contributes to SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth by fostering a legal framework that supports sustainable investment and economic development, as well as SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through strategic collaboration between government institutions and higher education in public policy development.
