UGM Law School Delegation Achieves Success at the 11th Sciencenational

The delegation led by Oemar Seno Aji from the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) achieved a remarkable feat by winning 3rd place in the 11th Sciencenational National Legal Opinion Competition for the Prof. Erman Rajagukguk Cup.. The 11th Sciencenational itself is a prestigious competition organized by the Institute for Legal Studies at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia. This competition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, and also directly celebrates 100 years of higher education in law schools in Indonesia.

The Oemar Seno Aji delegation consists of three students from the class of 2023 who have just completed their third semester but have already made their mark in the national legal arena: Glenn Bintang Hartawan Sinaga as delegation chair, Ignatius Seto Bagaskara Putra and Yonathan Kevin Alviano as delegation members, and Kenneth Achilles Putra as an official.

The competition, which was participated in by 18 teams from renowned universities such as Airlangga University, Brawijaya University, Diponegoro University, and others, centered on the overarching theme “Legal Implications of Artificial Intelligence Implementation: Creating a Legal Framework and Regulations for the Role of Artificial Intelligence within the Indonesian Legal System.” In this competition, it is expected that each delegation (legal experts) will be able to present progressive legal arguments and address legal issues related to Artificial Intelligence for which sui generis regulations are currently unclear under existing Indonesian law. Therefore, the arguments presented are expected to contribute insights toward resolving these legal issues for the next 100 years.

The competition consisted of two rounds. In the preliminary round, participants were asked to draft a legal opinion document containing a legal analysis of the case scenario provided. The Oemar Seno Aji team demonstrated their excellence through comprehensive and solution-oriented legal arguments, ranking third in the preliminary round. This success propelled them to the final round.

In the final round on Saturday (December 1, 2024) at the Djokosetiono Convention Hall, University of Indonesia, the Oemar Seno Aji delegation successfully presented to the panel of judges their analysis and solutions to legal issues arising from legal relationships created by Artificial Intelligence thereby securing second place in the final round evaluation. Consequently, the Oemar Seno Aji delegation won 3rd place in the 11th Sciencenational National Legal Opinion Competition for the Prof. Erman Rajagukguk Cup. hosted by the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia.
