Another achievement has been added to the list of accomplishments of students from the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM). The FH UGM delegation won Third Place and the Best Written Submission award at the 2016 National Criminal Moot Court Competition for the Tjokorda Raka Dherana IV Cup. The delegation, consisting of 16 participants and two officials, traveled to Bali to take part in the competition, which was held from September 23–26, 2016.

As part of the competition, the FH UGM delegation participated in two mock trials. The first took place during the preliminary round and focused on a narcotics case, while the second was held during the final round and addressed a terrorism case. This year’s competition carried the theme “Law Enforcement in Transnational Crime for Building a Sustainable Development and World Peace” and brought together 15 other delegations from universities across Indonesia.

Astrid Herera Nurchikmah, the Head of the Delegation, expressed her pride in the team’s achievement. The approximately five months of hard work and preparation had ultimately paid off. “Although we did not win first place, whatever we achieved, we always remind ourselves that it is something to be grateful for,” she said.

Throughout the preparation period, the delegation also faced several challenges. Difficulties in contacting alumni to serve as research sources and obtaining research permits during class hours were among the obstacles encountered. These challenges were shared during the trophy presentation ceremony held at the faculty on Thursday (13/10).

Dean of FH UGM, Prof. Dr. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LL.M., stated that these challenges would serve as an important consideration for the faculty moving forward. He added that the faculty would strengthen its role in supporting students participating in academic competitions. Sigit also hoped that this achievement would encourage the entire FH UGM academic community to take part in various academic competitions. Students’ legal capacity can be further developed through regular participation in competitions. “Everything related to the preparation and implementation of these competitions is highly synergistic with the academic atmosphere,” he said.
