1476504444485The Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), and BCA Life held a collaborative seminar on Saturday (15/10). The event took place at Building I of FH UGM and focused on insurance and insurance dispute resolution. The seminar was divided into three sessions, covering an introduction to insurance, insurance dispute resolution, and career opportunities in the insurance industry.

In his opening remarks, Andi Sandi ATT, S.H., LL.M., stated that insurance is a longstanding issue that continues to undergo significant development. Insurance-related issues can also be found in almost every aspect of life. “This seminar is a good opportunity to introduce you to professions and knowledge in the insurance sector. The insurance industry is not limited to one particular field of study; people from almost any academic background can pursue a career in this field. I hope this opportunity will provide you with useful knowledge for the future,” he added.

The seminar featured Sukawati Lubis, Ir., MBA, AAAIJ, AIIS, QIP, CCP as the speaker, with Nabiyla Risfa Izzati, S.H., LL.M. Adv. serving as the moderator. The event was attended by hundreds of members of the FH UGM academic community, from undergraduate to doctoral students, and opened with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya.

Sukawati Lubis explained that insurance is not a new concept and that the basic principles of insurance have been known and developed since before the Common Era. She also discussed the principles of insurance and the criteria involved, which she considered important given the public’s still limited understanding of the subject.

“Insurance-related issues and disputes are inevitable, but our guiding principle is to make every effort to minimize disputes. When a dispute does arise, it may eventually be brought before a court, but mediation should be pursued first,” she explained during the session on insurance disputes. The Corporate Secretary/Head of Corporate Legal, Secretariat & Compliance at PT Asuransi Jiwa BCA also noted that career opportunities in the insurance sector are not limited to working for insurance companies; professionals can also pursue careers as mediators.

At the end of the session, the woman who earned her Certified Compliance Professional qualification in 2016 advised participants never to delay paying their insurance premiums, as doing so could negatively affect their future and potentially disrupt the achievement of their goals.
