That afternoon, rows of red chairs were neatly arranged in Building I of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM). One by one, invited guests and members of the FH UGM academic community began arriving and entering the room. On Wednesday (12/10), FH UGM held the Handover Ceremony for the Dean and Chair of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Faculty of Law UGM for the 2016–2021 term. Prof. Dr. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LL.M., was entrusted with serving as the new Dean of FH UGM based on a decree issued by the Rector of UGM and signed on Friday (7/10). Prof. Sigit succeeded Prof. M. Hawin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., who had served as the interim dean for the 2012–2016 term.
The ceremony began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya, followed by a prayer and the reading of the official decree. Prof. Sigit and Prof. Hawin then signed the Handover of Office Minutes, witnessed by the Secretary of the FH UGM Senate, Dr. Djoko Sukisno, S.H., C.N. This was followed by the signing of the Handover of Office Minutes for the Chair of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of FH UGM.
In his speech, Prof. Hawin expressed his gratitude to those who had supported him during his tenure as Dean of FH UGM. He also apologized to the entire FH UGM academic community for any shortcomings during his term of office. In closing, Prof. Hawin emphasized the importance of the relationship between the rectorate and the faculty. “We hope there will be strong synergy between the faculty and the university administration. Everything is for our common progress and the advancement of UGM,” he said.
In his speech, Prof. Sigit recalled Prof. Hawin as a figure known for his humility, wisdom, and sincerity. “It is our responsibility to continue the good initiatives and achievements that have been developed by Prof. Hawin,” he said.
The series of speeches continued with remarks from the Secretary of the FH UGM Senate, Dr. Djoko Sukisno, S.H., C.N., followed by Sigid Riyanto, S.H., M.Si., representing the teaching staff, and Mardiyanto, representing the administrative staff. “Hopefully, as the captain of FH UGM, Prof. Sigit will continue what Prof. Hawin has initiated,” said Djoko.
The speeches concluded with a traditional tumpeng cutting ceremony. Prof. Hawin cut the tumpeng and presented it to Prof. Sigit. As the event drew to a close, Dr. Sulastriyono, S.H., M.Si. and Andi Sandi A.T.T., S.H., LL.M. presented commemorative gifts to Prof. Hawin and Prof. Sigit. At 2:40 p.m., the ceremony concluded with handshakes from all attendees as they congratulated the new Dean. (Hanifah F)
