UGM ALSA Local Chapter Delegation Wins First Place at ALWC 2023

The UGM Faculty of Law won first place in the 2023 ALSA Legal Writing Competition (ALWC) Legal Opinion Category, organized by the ALSA Local Chapter at Udayana University from June 8 to July 23, 2023. The UGM Faculty of Law sent a delegation from the UGM ALSA Local Chapter consisting of Aditya Dirga Pratama (2021) as Team Captain, Laila Hasna Azizah (2020), and Chandra Airlangga Ar Fakhsal (2021) as Team Members.

ALWC 2023 was held under the overarching theme “The Role of Lawyers in Non-Litigation Efforts to Resolve Environmental Disputes.” The competition was open to all university students in Indonesia. A total of 31 teams from various universities competed in this event.

ALWC 2023 consisted of two rounds: the preliminary round and the final round. The preliminary round involved an online screening of submitted proposals. In this round, the 31 submitted proposals were screened using a knockout system, leaving the five teams with the highest scores. These five teams went on to become the finalists in the final round. The finalists who qualified are from Gadjah Mada University, Tarumanegara University, Padjajaran University, the University of Indonesia, and Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University.

In the final round, the finalists were asked to give presentations and participate in a Q&A session with the judging panel online via Zoom Meeting. The judging panel for this round consisted of I Made Bagus Suardana, S.H., M.H.; I Putu Gede Darmawan, S.H., M.H.; and Karisha Riandianti Mutiara Ballerina, S.H., M. Kn.

The winners of this competition were Padjadjaran University as 3rd Place with a total score of 2,371, Tarumanegara University as 2nd Place with a total score of 2,430, and Gadjah Mada University as 1st Place with a total score of 2,625.

In recognition of this achievement, the UGM Faculty of Law delegation would like to thank all those who provided assistance throughout the competition series. Hopefully, other students at the UGM Faculty of Law will be motivated to think critically and practice improving their ability to formulate sound legal opinions.
