Faculty of Law UGM students were taking their opportunity to participate in The 22nd John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition (John H. Jackson 2024). John H. Jackson 2024 is a WTO (World Trade Organization) international moot court competition on the alternative dispute settlement that held and organized by European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) and supported by WTO as well.
This competition is divided into 6 regional rounds worldwide and 1 oral round in the final. UGM team, hereinafter referred to as Team Number 114, has participated in regional rounds that held virtually in National University of Management, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This regional round was held for 4 days, started on Saturday (9/3/2024) until Tuesday (12/3/2024).
This competition was attended by 1 delegation team that consists of 5 members, namely Maria Bernadetha Molas H., Raihan Khrisna Amalia, Amanda Yovina Siti R., Gracella Chafrina, and Maxine Radinka. The delegates were also accompanied by 3 managers namely Naufal Faras Rayyan, Aqila Putra Awaluddin, and Falisha Awidiya Purwana.
Before entering the regional round, the delegation priorly prepared written memorial for the purposes of the Complainant and Respondent files based on the position case regarding International Trade Disputes referring to the laws enforced by WTO member countries. Written memorial was priorly prepared before the delegation entered the oral pleading stages.After the written memorial was completed and the delegation had sent the files to the committee, the delegation practiced to prepare themselves so that they could perform as well as possible in the oral pleading stages.. The round began with welcoming participants and an opening ceremony followed by preliminary rounds.In the regional round, Team Number 114 won the"The Most ELSA Spirited Team"After passing the regional round, the selection process will continue to determine which participants can proceed to the final round. The final round of The 22nd John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition will be held offline in June 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The delegation's participation in the Regional Round of The 22nd John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition is expected to provide new knowledge and experience, especially knowledge and experience related to international moot courts. This competition is also expected to be a forum for delegates to gain and share insights between participants with various national backgrounds. In addition, the"The Most ELSA Spirited Team" award that has been achieved by the team is an achievement that should also be proud of.
