Bandung— The Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), through the Center for Legal Consultation and Aid (PKBH), conducted a visit to the Faculty of Law, Parahyangan Catholic University (FH UNPAR) on Monday, 7 September 2026. The visit was conducted as part of the initiation of cooperation between the two institutions, particularly in the field of community engagement, through the exchange of experiences and the identification of potential collaborative programs that can be developed sustainably. This initiative reflects FH UGM’s commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education by expanding collaborative networks among law faculties across Indonesia.
During the visit, FH UGM and FH UNPAR discussed various forms of community engagement initiatives undertaken by each institution. FH UNPAR shared its experiences in implementing community engagement programs in various regions, including the Bina Desa program, the FH Mengajar program, and community engagement initiatives conducted through the Center for Human Development and Social Justice. These programs address various legal and community development issues through approaches that involve faculty members and incorporate interdisciplinary perspectives.
In addition to community engagement, the meeting also explored opportunities for cooperation in the field of academic publications. FH UGM and FH UNPAR discussed potential collaboration between journals managed by the two institutions through article contributions and cross-institutional publication opportunities for academics from both institutions, as part of their efforts to advance and contribute to the development of legal knowledge. Such cooperation is expected to strengthen academic networks while promoting the advancement and improvement of the quality of scholarly publications at both institutions.
The initiation of the cooperation agreement was attended by representatives of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada, namely Prof. Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., LL.M., M.A., Vice Dean for Research, Community Engagement, and Information Systems of FH UGM; Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab, S.H., M.Si., Head of PKBH FH UGM; Virga Dwi Efendi, S.H., LL.M., Secretary of PKBH FH UGM; and Anggita Mustika Dewi, S.H., M.Kn., Lecturer at the Department of Agrarian Law, FH UGM. The event was also attended by the Dean and faculty members of the Faculty of Law, Parahyangan Catholic University, including Dr. Robertus Bambang Budi Prastowo, S.H., M.Hum., Dean of FH UNPAR, along with faculty members involved in community engagement activities.
The visit and discussion proceeded smoothly and resulted in several potential areas of collaboration to be further developed by both institutions. As a follow-up, FH UGM and FH UNPAR will further map out potential forms of cooperation, including through the review of a draft Cooperation Agreement and further technical discussions between the relevant parties. Through its cooperation with FH UNPAR, FH UGM seeks to develop a more inclusive, collaborative, and community-oriented model of engagement by integrating the resources, expertise, and experiences of both institutions. This initiative also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, through strengthening legal awareness and literacy within communities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthening synergy and collaboration among higher education institutions in advancing community engagement.
