Bandung– The Legal Consultation and Aid Center of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (PKBH FH UGM), in collaboration with the Bandung Chapter of the Desamind Indonesia Foundation, conducted a legal awareness program for the residents of Ciherang Village, Nagreg District, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Organized to fulfill the Higher Education Tri Dharma, the event addressed three primary topics tailored to the community's needs: Business Identification Number (NIB) Registration for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Islamic Marriage Law, and Land Dispute Resolution.
The event drew a diverse audience from the community, academia, village government, and non-governmental organizations. Academic representatives included Prof. Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., LL.M., M.A., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems at FH UGM. Speakers featured Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab, S.H., M.Si., Chair of PKBH FH UGM; Virga Dwi Efendi, S.H., LL.M., Secretary of PKBH FH UGM; and Anggita Mustika Dewi, S.H., M.Kn., a lecturer from the Agrarian Law Department at FH UGM. Meanwhile, the Ciherang Village Government was represented by Village Head Toufik Mukti Ismail, S.T., alongside his staff, while Ari Septian, S.Pd., led the team representing the Desamind Indonesia Foundation.
The program commenced with the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, followed by a profile video screening of the Desamind Indonesia Foundation. Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Toufik Mukti Ismail, S.T., who emphasized that this collaborative legal outreach was a constructive initiative that should continue in order to foster both harmonious community bonds and educational value for residents. Speaking on behalf of the FH UGM delegation, Prof. Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., LL.M., M.A., introduced various community engagement initiatives spearheaded by FH UGM in partnership with villages and urban communities across Indonesia.
The presentation session began with Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab, S.H., M.Si., who covered Islamic Marriage Law, elaborating on stages from the marriage contract to legal provisions regarding marital property. Next, Anggita Mustika Dewi, S.H., M.Kn., addressed Land Dispute Resolution, stressing the critical role of written evidence of ownership, particularly for customary land titles. Virga Dwi Efendi, S.H., LL.M., concluded the presentations with NIB Registration for MSMEs, highlighting how business legality ensures legal certainty, access to government facilities and incentives, market expansion, and business protection. The event concluded with an interactive discussion session, where residents actively inquired about marriage dispensations, technical hurdles in registering businesses via the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, and land acquisition issues.
This legal awareness initiative directly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It advances Goal 4 (Quality Education) by offering inclusive, non-formal legal education, and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by strengthening MSME institutional frameworks to promote economic equality. Furthermore, the initiative advances Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by enhancing legal awareness and access to justice, while fulfilling Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through sustainable multi-institutional collaboration.
