The Doctoral Program in Law at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to evaluate and improve the curriculum of the Doctoral Program in Law and align it with various national regulations as well as Gadjah Mada University’s internal regulations on Monday (November 3, 2025).
The event was attended by the Department Chairs of the UGM Faculty of Law, as well as the Student Thesis Advisory Committee for the Doctoral Program in Law (PDIH). Faculty leadership and representatives from the Quality Assurance and Academic Innovation Unit of the UGM Faculty of Law also participated in this discussion forum. The FGD, held in Room III.1.1 of the UGM Faculty of Law and via a virtual Zoom meeting, served as a platform for curriculum renewal aimed at improving the quality of PDIH graduates from the UGM Faculty of Law.
The main topics of this FGD were the graduate competency standards as outlined in the Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs), proposed changes to course offerings, and the addition of credit hours. During the discussion, participants addressed components of the UGM Faculty of Law’s PDIH curriculum, including a new course titled “Legal Reasoning for Dissertations,” a proposed increase in credit hours from 46 to 56, and name changes for several courses. The discussion also emphasized the importance of high-quality national and international journal publications and the mitigation measures the program must implement to avoid predatory journals.
FGD that was intended for evaluation of the PDIH FH UGM’s curriculum was a form of commitment from PDIH in implementing the 4th goal of SDGs on qualified education with ensuring the quality of PDIH FH UGM’s curriculum to create a graduate profile that experting the philosophy of the scientific field of knowledge and specific skill and able to carry out deepening and expansion of science and technology through research or the creation of original and tested works, in this case in the field of law.
