The Macro Business Simulation (MBS) ECase Competition 2022 is a business competition organized by Top-Boss in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, and ICETECH. Through this competition, participants are challenged to manage and develop a business by analyzing corporate conditions through the Macro Business Simulation (MBS) platform. The platform provides comprehensive information regarding a company’s financial performance, market conditions, and competitive environment, requiring participants to formulate effective business strategies while competing against other teams.

The competition was conducted online from March 5 to March 19, 2022. The national competition culminated on March 19, 2022, and consisted of two rounds. During the Preliminary Round, participants were required to analyze data available on the platform concerning both their own companies and competing firms. Based on this analysis, each team developed strategic solutions to address the challenges faced by their company. Teams were evaluated based on several key performance indicators, including Net Present Value (NPV), Return on Equity (ROE), Return on Assets (ROA), Market Share, and Equipment and Maintenance Expenses. Teams that ranked among the Top 10 advanced to the final round. In the final round, participants presented their business strategies via Zoom, explaining how their decisions enabled the company to maintain sustainable performance while achieving favorable results according to the competition’s evaluation criteria. Presentations were assessed by a panel of national and international judges, including Mr. Kwok Wing Ching from Top-Boss, Mr. Michael Chan from ICETECH, Dr. Yasmine Nasution from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, and Isni Maisyarah Dalimunthe, Chief Financial Officer of Asia Trading (The Kraft Heinz Company).

Representing Universitas Gadjah Mada, The Eagers adopted a Cost Strategy rather than a Pricing Strategy. The team focused on monitoring and optimizing costs to reduce expenditures, particularly the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and other operational expenses. At the same time, the strategy was designed to increase sales performance and maximize profitability, enabling the team to achieve strong results throughout the competition. The achievement reflects the interdisciplinary collaboration and analytical capabilities of UGM students and serves as a testament to their ability to compete successfully in national and international business competitions.
