The Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) participated in the Nitilaku Cultural Parade, held as part of the celebrations for Gadjah Mada University’s 76th anniversary on Sunday (December 14, 2025). FH UGM’s participation is a tangible expression of the faculty’s commitment to preserving cultural diversity while strengthening national values within the academic community.
During the event, FH UGM showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Indonesian archipelago by wearing traditional attire from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The choice of traditional attire aligns with this year’s overarching Nitilaku theme, “Ruwat Rawat Kebangsaan,” which emphasizes the importance of cleansing, nurturing, and preserving national values through respect for cultural diversity, traditions, and local identities across Indonesia.
A total of 20 members of the UGM Law School academic community joined the faculty contingent participating in this cultural parade. They marched alongside participants from various other faculties and units within the UGM campus, following a route from the UGM Boulevard gate to the UGM Balairung courtyard. Throughout the journey, the parade was enthusiastically welcomed by the academic community and the public who gathered to witness this annual cultural celebration.
The UGM Faculty of Law’s participation in the Nitilaku Cultural Parade was not merely a ceremonial gesture but also represented the role of higher education institutions in preserving cultural diversity as part of sustainable development. This activity aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) through character education and the strengthening of multicultural awareness among students, as well as SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), which promotes the preservation of cultural heritage as a source of community identity and social strength.
Furthermore, the spirit of national reconciliation promoted in this cultural parade is also relevant to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), particularly in efforts to build an inclusive, harmonious society that respects differences. Through a cultural approach, the UGM Faculty of Law seeks to instill the values of tolerance, unity, and social justice as the foundation of national and civic life.
Through its active participation in the Nitilaku Cultural Parade, the UGM Faculty of Law reaffirms its commitment as a legal education institution that not only focuses on academic development but also plays a role in nurturing diversity, strengthening national identity, and supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals through cultural and educational approaches.
