Sri Wiyanti Eddyono Highlights Legal Reform and Human Rights in FOSMAD Public Dialogue

Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., an academic from the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), served as a guest speaker at the Public Dialogue organized by the Donggo Student Fellowship Forum (FOSMAD) Bima-Yogyakarta.This event was held in conjunction with the Inauguration of the FOSMAD Executive Board for the 2025–2026 Term on Sunday (April 13, 2025). Sri Wiyanti’s presence underscored FH UGM’s commitment to strengthening legal literacy and human rights (HR) awareness among students, particularly in fostering critical awareness regarding democracy and social justice.

This public dialogue, themed “Legal Reform and Human Rights in Realizing a Democratic State” also featured Al Sylfa Rachmana student government advocacy activist, in a discussion led by a moderator. Sri Wiyanti offered a sharp academic perspective on the urgency of legal reform to make the legal system more responsive to the needs of society, as well as the importance of making human rights protection the foundation of a democratic state. With a compelling narrative, she encouraged students, as agents of change, to help oversee the democratization process through critical thinking and collective action.

This event is also closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, SDG 4 (Quality Education), as this forum serves as a platform for critical learning, enabling students to understand legal and human rights issues in Indonesia. Second, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), as the discussion underscores the importance of protecting vulnerable groups and ensuring equal access to justice. Third, SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), as legal reform and respect for human rights are key pillars in building a democratic, transparent, and inclusive state system. Through Sri Wiyanti’s participation, the Faculty of Law at UGM reaffirms its role in promoting the integration of SDG values into academic spaces and student movements.
