Speech and Law Debate Society Faculty of Law UGM successfully aimed the third place in Indonesian Law Debating Competition Faculty of Law Universitas Indonesia (FH UI) Rotating Trophy of Prof. Dr. Jimly Asshiddiqqie, S.H., on Sunday (21/4). The team was consisted of Hasna Rufaidah (2022) as the Head Delegates, Anika Minerva Pramono (2023) and Letisia Ortiez Anggriansyah (2023) as the Delegate Members, and Talitha Rafa (2023) as the official. The delegates were accompanied by Ardianto Budi Rahmawan, S.H., LL.M. as the supervision lecturer.
This legal debate competition organized by ILDS FH UI brought the grand theme“The Passion of the Contest of Ideas in Legal Transformation as a Step Towards a New Chapter of Indonesia Emas."This competition started off by an online qualification round that consisted of 23 teams from various Indonesian universities. This round was divided into 6 chambers, each chambers consists of 4 teams. Each team from each chambers is opposed to each other, so that 1 team will face 3 opposing teams in chambers. Then the best 6 teams from each chambers will be selected with the highest victory points in their chambers.
SPECIALITY Delegates as the representatives from UGM have successfully went to the semifinal round and obtained the highest victory points in their chambers The semifinal round was held offline in the Faculty of Law UI. This round was divided into 2 chambers with each chambers consisting of 3 teams, and 1 team faced 2 opposing teams in their chambers. SPECIALITY Delegates obtained the 2nd place in their chambers, made them successfully went to the 3rd place play-off round on Saturday (20/4). On this round, UGM delegates will oppose Brawijaya University chambers.
The motion in the 3rd place round was“Implementation of Benefit Sharing for Indigenous Peoples on the Commercialization of Traditional Cultural Expressions”with the FH UGM Speciality Delegates as the opposing team. The FH UGM Speciality Delegation managed to win the match with 3 jury wins from a total of 5 existing judges. Thus, the FH UGM Speciality Delegation managed to win the highest victory points and won 3rd place.
The winner announcement was made at the closing ceremony on Sunday (21/05/2024) attended directly by Prof. Dr. Jimly Asshiddiqqie, S.H..
For this achievement, the SPECIALITY FH UGM delegation expressed their gratitude to the parties who had helped during the series of competitions. Hopefully other UGM Faculty of Law students will be motivated to hone their critical thinking skills and their ability to express opinions well. In this case, the SPECIALITY FH UGM community opens up the widest possible space for students who want to join and improve their abilities, especially in legal debate.
