LLM PROGRAMS – On Thursday, 23 May 2019, one of the students of the LLM Programs held a thesis proposal seminar in Room VII.2.4, Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Eka Nanda Ravizki, S.H., presented his thesis entitled “Criminal Liability of Artificial Intelligence (AI): The Legal Conceptual Study and the Regulating Challenges in the Era of Global Technological Disruption.” The seminar was attended by the examiners Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., Anugrah Anditya, S.H., M.T., and Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M. The seminar was also attended by students and other members of the academic community.
In his opening presentation, Eka Nanda Ravizki, S.H., cited the statement, “The emergence of a machine with artificial intelligence has in fact caused a disruptive effect on society. AIs are able to operate autonomously rather than automatically,” by Paulus Cerka et al. He explained that several European countries have established legal frameworks concerning Artificial Intelligence (AI). The research aims to examine AI within the existing legal framework, analyze the implications of recognizing AI as a new legal subject, and explore the possibility of imposing criminal liability on AI, as well as the potential risks that may arise. Eka concluded his presentation by emphasizing the importance of examining the legal challenges surrounding the development and use of AI. (MIH&LLM FH UGM)
