UGM’s Master’s Program in Litigation Law Holds a Focus Group Discussion on Curriculum Revision to Align with the Latest Policies

The Master’s Program in Litigation Law at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to revise the curriculum on Thursday, November 28, 2024. The event took place in Room B.5.4 of Building B at the UGM Faculty of Law, with the aim of aligning the existing curriculum with the latest policies. These latest policies are outlined in Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation No. 53 of 2023 on Quality Assurance in Higher Education and UGM Rector’s Regulation No. 23 of 2024 on Education.

This FGD brought together various stakeholders, including representatives from the Yogyakarta Regional Police, the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor’s Office, the Yogyakarta High Court, as well as legal practitioners who are also alumni. The stakeholders collaborated to provide relevant input and guidance, ensuring the curriculum remains aligned with the current needs of the legal profession.

The Head of the Master’s Program in Litigation Law, Supriyadi, S.H., M.Hum., emphasized the importance of this revision to improve the quality of education and ensure graduates possess competencies aligned with the demands of the legal profession. “We hope that through this FGD, we can formulate a curriculum that is more responsive to legal developments and the needs of practitioners in the field,” he said.

This curriculum revision is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. SDG 4 emphasizes the importance of inclusive and equitable education, while SDG 16 aims to strengthen transparent and accountable legal institutions and ensure access to justice for all. Through collaboration among academics, practitioners, and employers of graduates, this revision is expected to produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also contribute to building a more just and sustainable legal system.

This FGD serves as a strategic step to ensure that legal education at UGM remains relevant and of high quality, supports UGM’s vision of producing outstanding human resources, and contributes to sustainable development in the field of litigation law.
