Doctoral Law Study Program Held a National Seminar on Writing for Proposal and Dissertation Research

Doctoral Law Study Program Faculty of Law UGM held a National Seminar on Friday (23/08/2024) with the topic “Theoretical Application & Philosophy of Law in Proposal and Dissertation Research Writing”. This event was held in person in Faculty of Law UGM and broadcasted online through Zoom meeting and Kanal Pengetahuan FH UGM at YouTube. The participants for this seminar was from the Doctoral student, graduate students, and externals from Universitas Gadjah Mada. The total number of participants of this seminar was 110 person. 

The first speaker of this seminar is Prof. Dr. Dra. Sulistyowati Irianto, M.A., the Professor of Legal Anthropology at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, followed by the second speaker, Prof. Dr. Shidarta, S.H., M.Hum., a scholar in the field of philosophy of law. Currently, Prof. Sidharta serves as a Professor of Legal Philosophy at Bina Nusantara University. Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., as the Secretary of the Doctoral Program in Legal Studies, was present as the moderator who led the discussion. 

The first session of this seminar was filled with Prof. Sulistyowati. In her session, Prof. Suilstyowati explained regarding the legal pluralism and globalization in the context of the interaction between the Indonesian legal system and international law, which carries methodological implications for the writing of research proposals and dissertation studies. The next session was filled by Prof. Shidarta that explained regarding the philosophy of law in the dissertation preparation theory.

Afterwards, the event then continued with Focus Group Discussion by the Doctoral Program in Legal Studies, together with the supervisory team, facilitating the students in applying the knowledge they have gained through national seminars to the writing of their proposals and dissertations.

The intention of this national seminar is to become a form of commitment by the Doctoral Law Study Program in examining and explaining legal science through a philosophical approach in accordance with their area of specialization. This aligns with the commitment of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, which concerns quality education.
