Predatory Pricing in the Digital Era: BLC FH UGM, Directorate General of AHU, and KAGAMA Business Law Hold Business Law Discussion

The Business Law Community (BLC) of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with the Directorate General of General Legal Administration (Ditjen AHU) and the Universitas Gadjah Mada Business Law Alumni Association, held a webinar entitled "The Effects of Predatory Pricing Practices in E-Commerce: Addressing Market Domination and Monopoly." The online event, held on Friday, March 14, 2025, was attended by more than 100 participants, including students, MSMEs, and the general public interested in contemporary business law issues.

The webinar featured four prominent speakers: Dr. Widodo, S.H., M.H., Director General of AHU, Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia; Andriansyah Tiawarman K, S.H., M.H., CCD., CMLC., CTLC., C.Med., President Director of Justicia Training Center; Sony Hutahaean, S.H., Partner of Badranaya Partnership; and Rio Fafen Ciptaswara, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Managing Partner of Nadim Zaki Fornawansyah Law Firm. The speakers highlighted the dangers of predatory pricing, the practice of selling goods at very low prices, even below production costs, to eliminate competitors. This strategy, if left unchecked, can kill MSMEs, weaken business competition, and create monopolies that ultimately harm consumers. The interactive discussion emphasized the urgency of stronger regulations and legal oversight so that the digital business climate in Indonesia can develop fairly and sustainably.

This activity is expected to not only broaden theoretical knowledge but also provide a space for reflection for law students to actively participate in promoting the creation of a fair, adaptive, and responsive business legal system to the challenges of the digital era.

More than just an academic forum, this activity reflects the commitment of the BLC FH UGM to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This webinar contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by encouraging a healthy and equitable business climate for all economic actors, including MSMEs. Furthermore, this activity supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by highlighting legal challenges and opportunities in the development of the digital economy, as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Resilient Institutions) by strengthening transparent and equitable business regulations and governance.

Thus, the BLC FH UGM serves not only as a forum for student academic development but also as a strategic partner in promoting sustainable, inclusive economic development based on the principles of legal justice.
