The Special Education for the Advocate Profession (PKPA) organized by the Faculty of Law UGM in collaboration with the National Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association (DPN PERADI) officially commenced on Monday (18/4). The Legal Consultation and Aid Center (PKBH) of the Faculty of Law UGM, as the organizer, recorded that 38 participants registered for this session. This number was considered ideal for creating a conducive classroom atmosphere, especially during practical discussions. Over the next two weeks, participants would receive various materials, including basic subjects, procedural law materials, non-litigation materials, professional skills training, and several additional topics.
Advocates, as law enforcers, contribute significantly to the development of the legal world in Indonesia. Therefore, this PKPA serves as a regeneration effort to educate participants to become advocates who are aware of factual realities and competent in the application of law. “Such transitions should certainly be viewed as something positive. Those who replace others should possess adequate capability and competence. In this way, there will be changes toward positive developments,” stated Viator Harlen Sinaga in his remarks as a representative of Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia.
In addition to serving as a means of preparing credible future advocates, the PKPA also functions as a platform for participants to share knowledge and build professional connections. Sulastriyono explained that the purpose of the PKPA is to provide legal graduates with practical skills for pursuing the advocate profession. The Vice Dean for Research and Community Service expressed hope that participants would become dignified advocates who remain attentive to marginalized communities. This reflects the values of UGM as a people-oriented and struggle-oriented university. (Lita)
