Justicia Basketball Club (JBC) and Justicia Football Club (JFC) successfully achieved outstanding results in the Atma Jaya Law Festival competition on Friday (15/4). The Atma Jaya Law Festival is an annual event organized by Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya Jakarta to strengthen ties among law faculties throughout Indonesia. Both the basketball and mini soccer competitions were held on the same dates, namely April 11–15, 2016.
On that occasion, JBC succeeded in winning third place. The team, consisting of 12 players and 1 manager, achieved this accomplishment after defeating the basketball team from Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). Muhammad Yavad Vashogi, the chairman of JBC, stated that this was the first time the basketball community of the Faculty of Law UGM had achieved success at the national level. Yavad hoped that the community would be able to maintain and further improve these achievements in the future.
At the same event, JFC managed to secure second place. This achievement was obtained after the team drew 1–1 in the final round. However, the score changed to 3–4 following a penalty shootout between Team B of the Faculty of Law Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya Jakarta and the football community of the Faculty of Law UGM. Muhammad Ikhsan Nur Habi, the captain of JFC, explained that the community had participated several times in national-level competitions. Specifically in competitions organized by Atma Jaya Jakarta, JFC had consistently won titles in recent years.
The system used in both competitions was a semi-competition format. There were two phases in the system, namely the group stage and the knockout stage. The group stage was held over three days and then continued with the knockout stage. In the group phase, JBC emerged as group champion after defeating teams from Universitas Trisakti, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), and Team A of Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya Jakarta. Meanwhile, JFC became group champion after outperforming teams from Universitas Kristen Indonesia, Universitas Bina Nusantara, and Team B of Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya Jakarta.
The basketball competition participants consisted of eight teams: the Faculty of Law UGM team, Universitas Tanjungpura, Team A of Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya Jakarta, Team B of Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya Jakarta, Universitas Trisakti, Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), and Universitas Pancasila (UP). Meanwhile, the mini soccer competition participants included the Faculty of Law UGM team, Team A and Team B of Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya Jakarta, Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar), Universitas Kristen Indonesia, Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta.
Yavad and Habi felt that they gained many benefits from the competition. In addition to increasing the players’ experience, the tournament also strengthened camaraderie among members. Furthermore, they were able to reinforce relationships with alumni from their respective communities. This was evident from the financial support provided by the alumni. (Fitri)
