The Law Faculty Library at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), in collaboration with the UGM Library and Archives, organized an educational workshop for the first time as part of the Legal Research Methodology course. The workshop, themed “Using Reference Management Tools and Accessing UGM Library Data,” aims primarily to strengthen students’ ability to access scholarly references and improve the quality of their academic writing.
The event took place on Monday (September 29, 2025) and Tuesday (October 1, 2025), and was mandatory for students enrolled in the Legal Research Methods course this year, serving as the final class session.
The students appeared enthusiastic about the workshop, as they gained new insights into utilizing the reference resources available at the library as well as technologies that support scholarly writing.
In this workshop, students were equipped with various important knowledge, including:
- Access to Reference Sources in the UGM Library Database
- Access to Digital Book Applications, such as SIDILA and the Digital Law Library
- The Importance and Ethics of Citation in Academic Writing
- An Introduction to Reference Management Tools
- Using Reference Management Tools, specifically the Zotero application
This workshop featured speakers from the UGM Library and Archives, namely:
- Janu Saptari, S.IP. – Associate Librarian
- Wahyu Supriyanto, S.E., M.Si. – Head of the Library Services Division
- Safirotu Khoir, Ph.D. – Coordinator of Public Relations and International Affairs for the UGM Library and Archives & Graduate School Faculty Member
Through this workshop, it is hoped that UGM Faculty of Law students will become better educated in utilizing various legal reference sources, both in digital and print (textbook) formats, and will be able to manage references properly and accurately in accordance with the ethical principles of academic writing. It is expected that this will contribute to improving the quality of legal writing and fostering sustainable legal research.
Sejalan dengan Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), kegiatan ini mendukung SDG 4 (Quality Education) dengan memperkuat kapasitas akademik mahasiswa melalui literasi informasi dan pengelolaan referensi ilmiah, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) dengan mendorong pemanfaatan teknologi digital dalam pendidikan tinggi, serta SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) dengan memastikan bahwa penelitian hukum didukung oleh sumber data yang kredibel dan akuntabel, sehingga menghasilkan kajian yang berdampak nyata bagi masyarakat.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening students’ academic capacity through information literacy and the management of scholarly references; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting the use of digital technology in higher education; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by ensuring that legal research is supported by credible and accountable data sources, thereby producing studies that have a tangible impact on society.
