The Faculty of Law of Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), through the Center for Legal Consultation and Assistance (PKBH), in collaboration with TVRI Yogyakarta, conducted a legal education broadcast titled “Pro Justicia: Worker Protection”. The one-hour broadcast discussed normative provisions, current issues, and various solutions related to worker protection in society. Several other topics also became the main highlights in this broadcast, particularly wages, employment agreements, working hours, and others. With the aim of providing insight to the public, this broadcast will also be published in mass media on March 24, 2026, at 15:00 on both the television channel and the YouTube channel of TVRI Yogyakarta.
The broadcast, which involved two academics, presented the ideal condition of worker protection—an important element in ensuring workers’ rights. Through the explanations delivered by Nailul Amany, S.H., M.H. and Nabiyla Risfa Izzati, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D, both of whom are lecturers of Labor Law at the Department of Civil Law, Faculty of Law UGM, several potential violations of legal provisions were also highlighted. Several questions related to current labor issues were frequently raised during the broadcast, for example those related to wages, Religious Holiday Allowance (THR), Job Loss Security, and other labor issues. Coinciding with the moment of Eid al-Fitr, the discussion and calculation regarding THR also became a crucial topic.
“The payment of THR may be postponed, but it must be paid, because THR is a worker’s right that is regulated by law,” said Nabiyla Risfa Izzati, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. In conclusion, the Pro Justicia broadcast concluded that the regulations on worker protection already provide sufficient protection for workers, however the actual facts in the field show a clear gap.
As a manifestation of Community Service based on the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the implementation of this legal education broadcast represents a concrete step in providing adequate insights to the public, most of whom belong to the working class. In line with the concept of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the implementation of this broadcast is a concrete effort to realize sustainable development based on the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education through the implementation of broadcasts in mass media that ensure inclusive and quality access to education, Goal 10 on Reduced Inequalities through the presentation of materials regarding worker protection and workers’ rights, Goal 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through the introduction of various types of institutions in the field of labor as well as their legal remedies, and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals through collaborative community service efforts with the aim of sharing knowledge and promoting equal and coherent legal understanding.
