The Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), through its Legal Consultation and Aid Center (Pusat Konsultasi dan Bantuan Hukum/PKBH), conducted a legal education session on online lending for inmates at the Class IIA Yogyakarta Detention Center on Friday, September 25, 2026. The program represents FH UGM’s continued commitment to community service as one of the three pillars of higher education, while promoting greater legal awareness and access to legal education among members of the correctional community.
The legal education program was carried out through a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach involving FH UGM faculty members, students, and officials from the Yogyakarta Detention Center. The activity began at 9:00 a.m. It was held in the detention center’s main hall. The session featured Dr. Ninik Darmini, S.H., M.Hum., a lecturer at the Department of Civil Law, FH UGM, who delivered a presentation entitled “Online Lending.” The session focused on the legal aspects of online lending services and the potential legal risks that may arise from their use. The material was designed to address issues relevant to the participants’ everyday legal needs. The discussion covered online lending as a legal relationship arising from an agreement, the distinction between legally registered and illegal online lending providers, as well as potential criminal offenses that may arise in the practice of online lending.
The session concluded at 10:30 a.m. WIB and proceeded in a constructive and engaging atmosphere. Participants, particularly the inmates, actively took part in the discussion by raising questions and sharing their perspectives during the question-and-answer session. Their active participation reflected the importance of accessible and practical legal education in strengthening legal awareness within correctional settings. Through this initiative, FH UGM seeks to contribute to the development of a more inclusive, legally aware, and peaceful society by ensuring that legal knowledge is accessible to diverse communities, including inmates.
The legal education program at the Class IIA Yogyakarta Detention Center also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly three key goals. First, SDGs 4 on Quality Education, which is reflected in the systematic, coherent, and relevant delivery of legal knowledge tailored to the participants’ needs. Second, SDGs 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, through legal education on civil and criminal law aimed at strengthening inmates’ legal awareness and understanding of the legal dimensions of online lending services. Third, SDGs 17 on Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrated through the collaboration between FH UGM and the Class IIA Yogyakarta Detention Center in implementing legal education programs on an ongoing basis. Through sustained collaboration and community-oriented legal education, FH UGM remains committed to strengthening legal literacy and expanding access to legal knowledge as part of its contribution to a more inclusive and sustainable society.
