Legal Counseling Suluh Praja at Temon Wetan Village: Legal Aspects of Village Institutions and Licensing

Kulon Progo, September 12, 2024 - On Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through the Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH) in collaboration with the High Prosecutor's Office of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), successfully held a legal counseling event, "Suluh Praja," at the Temon Wetan Village Office, Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency, DIY. This legal counseling aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the participants, including village officials and the surrounding community, focusing on the legal aspects of village institutions, village regulations, and licensing of village institutions. Therefore, the theme of this session, "Village Institutions and Licensing," was chosen to enhance participants' understanding of the legal aspects concerning village institutions and their licensing.

The event began at 9:45 AM WIB, starting with a joint singing of Indonesia's national anthem, Indonesia Raya. This was followed by a welcome speech from the Head of Temon Wetan Village, Mrs. Puji Purwaningsih, S.Pd. The team from the DIY High Prosecutor's Office, represented by Mr. Ye Oceng Almahdaly, S.H., M.H., then gave an introduction and presentation on the duties, main functions, and roles of the civil and administrative sectors within the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office.

The main presentations of the legal counseling were delivered by three lecturers from UGM Faculty of Law: Mr. Dr. Harry Purwanto, S.H., M.H., Mrs. Dwi Haryati S.H., M.H., and Mrs. Airin Liemanto, S.H., LL.M. Each lecturer presented on different topics, including village institutions, village institution licensing, and village regulation drafting. The lecturers actively engaged in discussions during the Q&A session with the village officials who attended the Suluh Praja legal counseling

The material from the three lecturers was presented in an interactive and engaging manner, facilitating lively discussions. Several questions were raised by the participants, and the lecturers provided clear and practical answers. This legal counseling is expected to contribute towards creating an inclusive and peaceful village community, aligning with the 16th SDG goal of promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions among the parties involved in the legal counseling.
