The ALSA LC UGM Delegation Won Third Place in the ALSA Lex Weeks 2024 Mediation Competition

Students from the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), representing the ALSA Local Chapter of Gadjah Mada University (ALSA LC UGM), were given the opportunity to participate in the ALSA Lex Weeks 2024 Mediation Competition, organized by the ALSA Local Chapter of Padjadjaran University (ALSA LC Unpad). 

The ALSA LC UGM delegation won third place in their presentation of a mediation trial simulation. The ALSA LC UGM delegation, which performed the simulated mediation trial, included:

  1.  Mediation Judge: Falens Nicanor (2022)
  2. Plaintiff's Attorney: Syabilla Himaningtyas Sudarpo (2022)
  3.  Defendant's Attorney: Reza Saputra (2022)
  4. Plaintiff: Narandra Adhika Rizaldi (2022)
  5. Defendant: Putri Widhyastiti Prasetiyo (2022)

The mediation performance and The Closing Ceremony were held at the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, on Saturday, September 7, 2024. The ALSA LC UGM delegation was assigned number 2 (two) to present the simulated mediation trial before the jury. The event continued with an awarding and closing ceremony in the Tommy Koh-Mochtar Kusumaatmadja Auditorium. 

Every year, ALSA LC Unpad routinely holds an academic competition with various legal practice categories through an activity called ALSA Lex Weeks. This year, ALSA Lex Weeks featured a mediation competition with the theme "Mediation in Land Disputes."This competition aims to provide a platform for law students throughout Indonesia to hone their critical and analytical thinking skills in real-life situations that require strategic problem-solving and decision-making. This competition aims to raise participants' awareness of the importance of mediation as an efficient and fair dispute resolution method. This competition is divided into two rounds: File Preparation and Mediation Implementation. The file preparation period was carried out by the ALSA LC UGM Delegation from August 8, 2024, to August 25, 2024. The file preparation training was conducted by five delegates, accompanied by two trainers and members of the ALSA LC UGM Law Development Board. 

Overall, this competition consists of two rounds: Case Preparation and Mediation. The case preparation period was conducted by the ALSA LC UGM delegation from August 8, 2024, to August 25, 2024. The case preparation training was conducted by 5 (five) delegates, accompanied by 2 (two) coaches, as well as the Executive Board of Law Development ALSA LC UGM. 

This activity consisted of position case development, research, filing, and file collection. Next, there was a final mediation preparation exercise, which took place from Monday, August 26, 2024, to Friday, September 5, 2024. This exercise included a mediation trial role-play and a competition rehearsal. During this exercise, the delegation received input from Putu Ratna Indriyani Manik (2021) and Najla Nazhira Chairani (2021), as trainers, to evaluate their performance in the trial simulation.
