On Wednesday (October 22, 2025), the UGM Faculty of Law, through its Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office, successfully held a “Suluh Praja” legal outreach event at the Maguwoharjo Village Office in Depok Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. This legal outreach program aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the attendees—village officials and the surrounding community—regarding common legal issues. This edition of “Suluh Praja” focused on inheritance law and the resolution of inheritance disputes, offering insights into aspects of customary inheritance law and Islamic inheritance law, as well as how to resolve disputes that may arise during the distribution of inherited assets.
The event began at 9:30 a.m. with the singing of the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya,” followed by opening remarks by Heri, the village secretary of Maguwoharjo. The program continued with a presentation by a team from the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office, who discussed the duties, responsibilities, and functions of the civil and public administration divisions within the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office.
Next, the legal education session was led by three guest lecturers from the UGM Faculty of Law. Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer in the Department of Islamic Law, discussed the topic “Islamic Inheritance Law” to provide a basic overview and the latest updates on current developments in Islamic inheritance law in Indonesia. Next, the presentation was delivered by Dr. Agus Sudaryanto, S.H., M.Si., from the Department of Customary Law, who discussed “Customary Inheritance Law” to provide an understanding of the inheritance system based on customary law in Indonesia. The next session was led by Prof. Dr. Tata Wijayanta, S.H., M.Hum., a Full Professor of Civil Law, who presented on the topic “Inheritance Disputes through Mediation” to offer legal insights into alternative methods for resolving inheritance disputes through mediation between the parties. All speakers—both from the DIY Provincial Attorney General’s Office and faculty members of the UGM Faculty of Law—actively participated in a question-and-answer session with the village officials.
The presentations by all the speakers were delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, facilitating productive discussions. The lecturers also answered participants’ questions clearly and offered practical solutions. It is hoped that this legal outreach program will support efforts to strengthen an inclusive and peaceful society in accordance with SDG Goal 16 to foster peace, justice, and resilient institutions, starting at the village government level, as well as strengthen partnerships to achieve better outcomes in line with SDG Goal 17.
