The Faculty of Law of UGM's Legal Consultation and Aid Center (PKBH), in partnership with the High Prosecutor's Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), held a legal outreach event on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Held in person at the Patuk Village Hall in Gunung Kidul, the session was attended by around 30 village administration staff and featured two speakers from FH UGM: Susilo Andi Darma, S.H., M.Hum., and Dr. Dinarjati Eka Puspitasari, S.H., M.Hum.
The event opened with remarks from PKBH Secretary, Ardianto Budi Rahmawan, S.H., LL.M., followed by remarks from the Head of the Legal Analysis Section at the DIY High Prosecutor's Office, Retno, and the Head of Patuk Village, Caturbowo.
The event continued with two presentation sessions. The first, delivered briefly by Susilo Andi Darma, covered the definition of village regulations, the substance of good village regulations, and how such regulations take effect for village communities. He also emphasized the need for caution and care when a village intends to enter into any kind of agreement.
The second session was presented by Dr. Dinarjati Eka Puspitasari, who covered how village regulations can broadly protect environmental aspects and natural resources within the village, with green/open land being one of the most common sources of dispute in communities.
After the presentations, the session moved into a Q&A segment, which showed strong participant engagement, with many questions focused on investment and cooperation. This enthusiasm reflects Patuk's ongoing development as a tourism village, prompting village officials to make the most of the outreach opportunity.
One notable question concerned the cancellation of cooperation agreements, since a lack of legal knowledge among residents can backfire if they aren't careful when entering into cooperation agreements. The speakers reminded attendees to always check land status and relevant legal sources before entering into any cooperation agreement.
