Appointment of a New Full Professor in the Field of International Human Rights Law

On Tuesday (July 1, 2025), Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., LL.M., M.A., was appointed as a new full professor in the field of International Human Rights Law. This appointment is not only an academic achievement for Dr. Jaka but also demonstrates the Faculty of Law at UGM’s commitment to strengthening the strategic role of legal education, particularly in the realm of human rights. In his new position, Dr. Jaka is expected to expand his scholarly contributions and legal practice focused on human rights issues at both the national and international levels.

As Associate Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems, Dr. Jaka is widely recognized for his dedication and contributions through in-depth research and innovative teaching. His involvement in various academic and advocacy forums has established him as a leading figure in the discourse on human rights law. This appointment also comes at a timely moment, given that global challenges related to discrimination, inequality, and human rights violations are becoming increasingly complex and require progressive legal thinking.

Dr. Jaka’s appointment as a full professor is closely linked to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This step supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving the quality of legal education at UGM, as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening the capacity of academics and students to uphold the values of justice and human rights. Furthermore, Dr. Jaka’s work also contributes to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by promoting an inclusive agenda that ensures human rights are accessible and upheld by all segments of society. Thus, this appointment is not merely an academic milestone but also a tangible manifestation of UGM’s contribution to sustainable development.
