Opening of Merdikorejo Fostered Village by Dema Justicia and FH UGM

On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, the Community Service Department of DEMA Justicia (FH UGM's Student Executive Board) introduced a new Fostered Village program at Merdikorejo Village, located in Tempel District, Sleman Regency. The event was attended by FH UGM's Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems; the Second Secretary and Coordinator of Legal Outreach at the Legal Consultation and Aid Center (PKBH); the Head of Merdikorejo Village; village officials; community policing officers (Bhabinkamtibmas); village military liaison officers (Babinsa); hamlet heads; and the Chair and staff of Dema Justicia.

In his remarks at the opening event, Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., M.A., LL.M., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems, voiced strong support for the Fostered Village program initiated by DEMA Justicia, and outlined his vision for future agreements between the Faculty of Law and DEMA Justicia's Fostered Village. Among the planned activities agreed upon: Merdikorejo Village and DEMA Justicia FH UGM will hold a series of social/community activities across several hamlets, with dates to be confirmed. It was also agreed that DEMA Justicia and FH UGM would provide legal outreach based on an assessment survey completed by participants beforehand. Ardianto Budi Rahmawan, S.H., LL.M., representing PKBH FH UGM, also introduced attendees to an online legal consultation program currently being developed by PKBH together with the Faculty — one that, once launched, community members could use to consult on legal issues they're facing. Additionally, for legal issues falling outside the planned outreach topics or scheduled sessions, residents were told they could reach out directly to DEMA Justicia's designated contact person.

The event closed with a shared iftar (fast-breaking) meal between DEMA Justicia and the attending community members, along with the distribution of takjil (traditional Ramadan snacks) at a nearby mosque close to the Merdikorejo Village Hall.
