Orientation for New Students in the Master’s Program in Business and Public Law at the Faculty of Law, UGM, for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

On Friday (August 15, 2025), the Master’s Program in Business and Public Law (MHBK) at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, successfully held a New Student Orientation for the 2025/2026 academic year. The event, which lasted a full day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. WIB, was attended by all new students who had been accepted into the MHBK program. This orientation was designed as a first step to prepare new students for their master’s-level studies. The event not only provided a basic understanding of the program but also equipped students with practical knowledge about the academic system at the UGM Faculty of Law.

The series of events began from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. WIB in Room 4.3.2 of the UGM Faculty of Law with a session introducing the study program, an orientation on the academic information system, and an introduction to KMMH as a student organization within the MHBK Study Program. During the event, the Head of the MHBK Program, Irna Nurhayati, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Ph.D., provided a comprehensive presentation on the vision, mission, and curriculum structure of the MHBK Program. The orientation materials also covered an introduction to the facilities of the MHBK Program and the UGM Faculty of Law that support students’ academic and non-academic lives. The information presented covered various flagship programs, such as research grants for master’s students, a recognition system for students’ scientific publications, and wellness facilities—including a wellness center, psychological counseling services, and a peer counselor program—that students can utilize to support their physical and mental health throughout their studies. This orientation session also featured an interactive Q&A session that gave new students the opportunity to ask questions and discuss various issues related to the program directly.

The session continued with a briefing on the Study Plan Card, presented by Donal Feny Wibowo, S.Kom., who provided practical guidance to new students on using the SIMASTER digital platform for academic purposes. Additionally, Nafia Fatmawati, S.Akun., as a representative of the finance department, provided guidance on the financial administration mechanisms that students need to understand during their studies. As part of the new student orientation process, the event also featured an introduction to the Master of Law Student Association (KMMH), presented directly by KMMH Chair Nawaz Syarif, S.H., and KMMH Vice Chair Achmad Jaelani Yusuf, S.H. They explained the role of student organizations in supporting students’ academic and non-academic activities, as well as the various programs planned for their term in office.

Moving into the second session, the event shifted to the Auditorium of Building B at the UGM Faculty of Law from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. WIB for presentations on the academic information system, IT, and the library. This session provided an orientation on the use of facilities and resources available to students to support their learning and research. Furthermore, the highlight of this orientation was the inaugural public lecture, held to give students an initial glimpse of the learning atmosphere in the MHBK Program. All graduate students attended this public lecture.

Furthermore, the implementation of this initiative is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This approach supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing inclusive and relevant legal education, as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through an emphasis on academic governance characterized by integrity and fairness. The presence of academic and financial administrators also reflects the spirit of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by fostering collaboration and synergy among stakeholders to support the success of the students’ educational journey. With the successful implementation of this MHBK new student orientation, the MHBK Study Program is optimistic that it can facilitate a smooth transition for new students as they begin their academic journey, while also building a strong foundation for future academic and professional achievements.
