On January 17, 2025, the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) hosted a study visit from students of SMAIT As-Syifa Boarding School in Wanareja-Subang. This visit aimed to promote and socialize the undergraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Law, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to education and civil society partnerships.
The event took place in Room V.1.1 of the Faculty of Law, where students were warmly welcomed by Dr. Hendry Julian Noor, S.H., M.Kn., a lecturer from the Department of Administrative Law, and Umar Mubdi, S.H., M.A., a lecturer from the Department of Civil Law. Their presence underscored the commitment of UGM to foster educational opportunities and partnerships with civil society.
During the visit, Dr. Hendry Julian Noor provided an overview of the various undergraduate programs available at the Faculty of Law. He emphasized the importance of legal education in shaping future leaders who are equipped to address societal challenges. The students were encouraged to consider enrolling in law programs that not only focus on legal knowledge but also on ethical practices and social responsibility.
Umar Mubdi, on the other hand, shared insights into the practical aspects of studying law, including internships and real-world applications of legal principles. He highlighted the Faculty's strong connections with various legal institutions, which provide students with valuable experiences and networking opportunities. This aligns with the SDG goal of promoting inclusive and equitable quality education.
The academic and student affairs staff, including Tri Rahmat Hidayat, A.Md., Zam Basir Angga Wibisono, S.I.Kom., and Ike Trines Sari, S.I.P., played a crucial role in facilitating the visit. They provided information on the admission process, scholarship opportunities, and student life at UGM, ensuring that the visiting students had a comprehensive understanding of what to expect should they choose to enroll.
Such collaborations are essential in promoting educational access and equity, particularly in rural areas. By working together, educational institutions can create more opportunities for students to pursue higher education, thus contributing to the SDGs.
As the session concluded, both faculty members and students expressed their hopes for future collaborations. Dr. Hendry and Umar emphasized the importance of continuous engagement with high schools to inspire young minds to pursue legal studies. They believe that fostering interest in law at an early age can lead to a more informed and active citizenry.
In summary, the study visit from SMAIT As-Syifa Boarding School to the Faculty of Law at UGM was a significant step towards promoting legal education and building partnerships with civil society. It highlighted the importance of education in achieving the SDGs and the role of universities in shaping the future of the nation.
