FH UGM Bids Farewell to Dr. Sulastriyono After 38 Years of Dedicated Service to the Department of Customary Law

The Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a retirement farewell ceremony for Dr. Sulastriyono, S.H., M.Si., a lecturer in the Department of Customary Law, on Friday, March 6, 2026. The event was a moment of tribute and gratitude for Dr. Sulastriyono's long and devoted service -- 38 years as a member of the UGM Faculty of Law academic community.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Sulastriyono's contributions extended well beyond teaching and scholarship. He held a number of key positions within the faculty, serving as Secretary of the Customary Law Department from 2007 to 2011, before being entrusted as Vice Dean for Research and Community Service from 2012 to 2016. In the final chapter of his service, he also served as Secretary of the FH UGM Senate from 2023 to 2026.

Dr. Sulastriyono's decades of service speak to a deep and abiding commitment to the development of legal scholarship -- particularly in the field of customary law -- and to the strengthening of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Through his dedication, he played a meaningful part in building an academic tradition of integrity and in advancing the institutional development of the UGM Faculty of Law.

The retirement farewell was an expression of appreciation for the contribution and example he has set over decades. The intellectual legacy, the spirit of service, and the academic commitment that Dr. Sulastriyono leaves behind are hoped to continue inspiring future generations of lecturers and students in developing legal scholarship and upholding the values of knowledge at the UGM Faculty of Law.

The event also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) -- particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), through Dr. Sulastriyono's contribution to improving the quality of higher education and advancing legal scholarship in Indonesia. The deepening of customary law studies that has characterized his expertise also connects to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), by fostering a sense of legal justice and strengthening a legal system that respects the diversity of values and local wisdom in society.
